The Importance of Eating Local

Local food benefits the local economy.

Eating local food provides significant economic benefit to communities across the state. At the Food Equity Collaborative, we locally source as many of our ingredients as possible. We source and support hundreds of farmers and producers across the state. By spending locally, the money that we spend stays close to home and is reinvested in our community.

Local food benefits the environment.

There are many environmental benefits to eating locally grown food. Buying locally minimizes the distance products travel, which leads to less fuel consumption, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and decreased pollution. Buying locally grown foods also helps maintain farmland green space in our communities.

Local food benefits the community.

Eating local is about more than just food, it's about building stronger, healthier, and more connected communities. When we support local farmers and producers, we create jobs, new  relationships, and better access to fresh, nutritious food for everyone. Local food systems also promote community empowerment, allowing communities to shape their own food future and reduce reliance on distant supply chains.

The Food Equity Collaborative Supports Local Food Systems.

By sourcing our ingredients from local farms and producing Good Bowls close to the communities we serve, we help create a more resilient, equitable, and health-focused food system. Our post-harvest supply chain centers around sustainability and nutrition to turn local food into accessible, healthy meals for communities in need.
